  REVIEW:

Eddie Murphy’s new movie Norbit – wondering why the name?  Well, it has to do with his creative motivation for the film . . . Norbit, as turns out, is . . . actually . . . “alimony” spelled backwards.

This movie is all Eddie Murphy, all the time. Norbit (Eddie Murphy) was abandoned by his parents when he was a baby so he was raised at an orphanage which was run by Mr. Wong (Eddie Murhpy...again). It's at the orphanage that he met the girl of his dreams. She ended up getting adopted and had to move away. He ends up marrying a rather large woman (not really a woman, but definately large...again played by Eddie Murphy). The love of his life finally comes back to town. Norbit wants her, but Norbit's wife will NOT, in any way, stand for Norbit eying other women. Norbit has to decide if fear is going to make him stay in his marriage or if love is strong enough to protect him from the rath of his wife.

Norbit is kind of like if Disney had made Borat.  It’s definitely not politically correct, but it is all done in a good natured manner.  If you’re okay with that, the movie is actually fairly funny.  However, it’s definitely very silly, definitely a marginal story at best, and – to be honest – we’re completely over the novelty of Eddie Murphy playing multiple characters in a movie.  That being said, though, it’s as though their make-up and special effects have finally caught up with Eddie’s talent; he’s actually better in the supporting roles than he is as the main character.  So, if you can handle the over-the-top silliness, Norbit is good for a big fat laugh or two.

  MOVIE NIGHT TRAFFIC LIGHT:

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate Norbit YELLOW.  Caution – not the best movie, but there are some really funny parts.
